It is with profound sadness Ron’s family announces his passing on May 27th, 2018.
Ron, the beloved husband of Greta (Algee) Hanlon for 31 years, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family. He was born on May 7th, 1959 in Halifax to the late Ronald Leo Hanlon and Joy Madeline (Lake) Hanlon. A very accomplished man, he had the opportunity to see just about every corner of the world. He graduated from Saint Mary’s University (1979) and the Technical University of Nova Scotia (1981) with his degree in mechanical engineering. Ron began his successful career at Trane and progressed into prestigious positions including the Chairman of McQuay International / Daikin, President of Price Mechanical Industries, and most recently as President / CEO of Halifax Partnership. He was particularly proud of his time with the Halifax Partnership, as it gave him the opportunity to advocate for his hometown’s growth with a community of wonderful caring people. During his time in Halifax, he also served on the Board of Directors of Feed Nova Scotia, was a member of the Consider Canada Cities Alliance, and led the creation of the Atlantic Canada Economic Coalition.
Ron had a deep love for his family and the little things in life like road trips, the ocean, and his beloved dogs Schooner and Harley. A gifted guitarist and a true music lover, his family and friends enjoyed listening to him play and sing.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Greta (Algee) Hanlon; his proud and loving children, Leo (Courtney), Katie (Robert), Madeline, Sean (Jill); his beloved brother, Jim (Anne); his much-loved Aunt, Edna “Tess” Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, (Ron and Joy Hanlon) and infant, sister.
Visitation for Ron will be held at on Friday, June 1 from 6 – 9 pm and A Celebration Service for Ron will be held on Saturday, June 2 at 10am, both from J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr.
Ron’s family would like to thank the physicians and nurses of QEII’s ICU 5.2 and 8.4 for their compassion and care. The family asks that you please donate blood to Canadian Blood Services, contribute to the Canadian Cancer Society, or give to the Evergreen Home for Special Care (Kentville) in lieu of flowers.
