It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Ferguson Reid (“Bob, Bobby, Mr. Reid”), of Halifax, Nova Scotia, on October 10, 2010 at the age of 59, in the QE II Health Sciences Centre, with his children by his side. Born in St. Lambert, Quebec, he was the son Mary (Gillum) Reid and the late Joseph Reid. Bob was a talented athlete and avid hockey fan. He played for the Dartmouth Lakers and went on to play for the St. Mary’s Huskies, during which time he gained his undergraduate degree in education. He went on to receive his master’s degree in education from St. Mary’s and served 32 years for the Halifax School Board. He taught subjects including, French, science, social studies and PDR at junior high level, first starting his career at Major Steven’s Junior High School and then moving to Cunard Junior High School, where he finished his career. He was a passionate teacher and will no doubt be remembered as one of the best teachers a student could ever have. He is survived by daughter, Melissa, Manchester, UK; son Sean, Halifax; brother Peter, Kelowna, BC; sister Susan, Montreal, PQ; niece Nellie; and nephews Peter and Kai. Bob was predeceased by brothers Jimmy and Tommy. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, where visitation will be take place on Thursday October, 14, from 2-4 and 6-8pm. A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at 10am on Friday October 15, 2010 in the funeral home chapel. Interment in Oakridge Memory Gardens, Sackville, NS. In lieu of flowers, donations in our father’s memory may be made to Chebucto Minor Hockey Association or to the QE II Health Sciences Centre Foundation.
