An Avid Blue Jays fan passed away July 3, 2013, at the age of 87 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, NS. Richard was a resident of Kingston and formerly of Halifax. He was the son of the late Nathanial and Maude (Barnes) Vokey.
Dad was employed with the Public Works Department of Canada as maintenance supervisor in the RCMP complex in Halifax. He retired in 1987. He was a member of the Brunswick Street United Church for many years. He was chairman of many Boards in the Church and served as a Church Elder for years. Richard was one of the many devoted Canadians who donated over 100 gifts of blood to the Canadian Red Cross Society.
Richard is survived by son Wayne (Sharon); two grandchildren, Shawn (Leila) and Shala (Rene); four great-grandchildren, Rachael and Ryan Vokey; twin sisters Emma and Paige Laporte. Dad was so proud of these little ones.
Dad will be sadly missed by his family and friends as he had a loving respect for each and everyone that crossed his path.
Besides his parents Richard was predeceased by his wife Edna (Eisenhauer); sister, Edna Cockburn; brother, Freddie. Remains are resting at Cruikshank’s Halifax Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. Burial will be in Fairview Lawn Cemetery.
