Born in August of 1945, he was the son of Ambrose James MacDonald and Frances Patricia Cunningham.
Richard was born in Pembroke, Ontario. As a small child, he moved to Dartmouth and raised by his mother (Fran) and father (Ambrose). He drove transport trucks for years. After his children were born, he became a Butcher, working 15 years for Sobeys. He also worked from 1990-2000 at St. Mary’s University, retiring from there.
Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he played hockey in his younger years. He loved to travel, meet new people, and spend time with his family and grandchildren. He was a loving father, grandfather, and husband of 43 years. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Elizabeth MacDonald; daughter Tanya Anne Annis (Yarmouth, N.S.); daughter-in-law Chrissy MacDonald (Halifax); son David Michael MacDonald (Halifax); son-in-law Jason Annis (Yarmouth, N.S.); grandchildren Aliyah Annis, (Yarmouth), Dustin MacDonald, (Halifax), and Ashton MacDonald, (Halifax).
He was predeceased by his father, Ambrose James MacDonald, brother, Michael MacDonald and father and mother-in-law Louis David Sheaves and Blanche Elizabeth Sheaves.
Arrangements are entrusted to J.A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax. There will be no visitation. Memorial service will be held at Saint Benedict Parish Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Monday October 29, at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
