Left with his memory is his loving partner, Nancy, and her family; his sister Vicki, his daughter Susie (Dale) and the pride of life, his grandchildren, Ethan, Sam, Mya, and Mackenzie. He was predeceased by his brother Sidney and sister Susan, and sadly by his daughter Stephanie (Blair).
There is not enough space on a page to talk about how special of a person he was. He lived life to the fullest and was keenly aware of how fortunate he was. There is yet to be a person that doesn’t say, “I love Peter”. He was a man of character and was a character. He approached the world with an optimistic view and a mischievous twinkle in his eye. He lived his true self, every day. He loved his cars (no food allowed), he loved the water and loved his Blue Bombers. He loved to be silly, loved a party and was a master storyteller. He made friends wherever he went. And not just passing friends. Friends that stuck.
His work was his life. It started with sweeping floors at the Keith’s Brewery, to becoming a Master Brewer and then on to a 35 plus year career with Labatt. A career that took him from coast to coast and back again. There are not many people that can say that they loved their work. He did so every day. He loved his customers so much that when he (semi) retired, they became his friends. The legacy he leaves is one of unmatched passion and dedication for his craft and his customers.
But most importantly, his family was everything to him. He was never short on pictures of his grandkids or stories about what they were doing and how proud he was of them. He found great comfort in spending time with his daughters and their families. It didn’t matter what they were doing, but if it included his family, he was in. And his life was full spending his days with Nancy. Whether they were on a road trip, visiting friends, or quiet weekend afternoons with a movie and a beverage, he loved and was well loved.
We want to thank his wonderful friends for being so helpful to him and Nancy over the past year and a half and to Monica Flinn and the Community Consult team. And we especially want to thank the team at the VG, Floor 7a for the love, care, and compassion that they showed to him and us.
In following his wishes, he will rest at the family chapel, with a private family gathering. But you can believe when the pandemic slows down, there will be a party to celebrate him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross in his honour.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.JASnowFuneralHome.com for the Oland family.
