Following a rich and joyful life, Pat passed away on November 1st, 2022 at the Halifax Infirmary at the age of 81. Born in Edmundston, NB, she was the daughter of the late Emile and Eva Violette. Pat graduated from the New Brunswick teacher’s college in 1960. The following year she began her 35-year teaching career at age 18 in a one room schoolhouse in Hampton, NB. The majority of her teaching career was spent in Halifax where the family relocated in 1964. Pat was an elementary school teacher who will be remembered for her steadfast dedication to her students, who included both the best minds and worst delinquents in Fairview.
Pat was small in stature but big in personality. She enjoyed socializing with friends and family as well as gardening and reading. Her thoughtful nature meant she rarely missed an important milestone in the lives of those she cared about. It is rumoured that she sent so many greeting cards that she once received a special certificate of appreciation from Carlton Cards. After her retirement in 1997 there were many enjoyable summer days at the cottage near Pugwash, NS where the grandkids were encouraged to run wild and defy convention. One of the many reasons why she was thought of as the best “nan” ever.
Pat is survived by her beloved husband of 60 years Kenneth (Ken); son Mark (Francine), daughter in-law Heather; grandchildren, Drew, Kyle and Kendra. Pat was predeceased by son Kenneth (Kenny).
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm at JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at 12:15pm at Saint Benedict Parish, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the ALS society of Nova Scotia.
