PERRY, Parnell Pauline ( Richardson), of Halifax passed away peacefully at home on January, 27, 2011. A loving, and caring grandmother,” Nannie” will be sadly missed by her cherished granddaughters Ashlee and Amanda. Born in Indian Harbour on November 23, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Foster and Genevieve (Hubley) Richardson of Indian Harbour and Halifax. A graduate of Horton Academy of Acadia University and The Maritime Business College she was employed at the Eastern Canada Savings and Loan Company for seven years until the birth of her son, Tim.
A devoted lifelong member of St. Paul’s Anglican church, she was an enthusiastic participant in many activities including the church school, the Annual Summer Fairs and the Ladies’ Guild . Her community work included member of the Board of the YWCA and assistant treasurer of the Protestant Infants Foundation.
She enjoyed people and her many friendships reflected her unerring ability to perceive the value in each person she met in varying circumstances. Her interests included playing bridge and scrabble, travel, theatre and musicals, curling, golf and community events. Parnell loved activities which nature presents: walking, picnicking, swimming, gathering wildflowers and berries, bird watching and gardening, and cherished the many times spent at their Shaw Island summer home in Chester Basin enjoying the charms of nature she found there. Artistically, she created numerous articles of needlepoint and many fine pieces of china painting.
The family extends its appreciation and thanks to Dr. Margaret Leighton, Dr. Keri-Leigh Cassidy and Dr. Daniel Carver for their care during Parnell’s illnesses.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-eight years, Karl, their son, Tim (Brenda), Dartmouth; two granddaughters, Ashlee,(Ottawa) and Amanda (Halifax) and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
