MacNeil, N. Robert, age 73 of Halifax passed away May 13, 2013, at the Halifax Infirmary. He was born in Sydney, NS, the son of Neil and Julia MacNeil. He was proud of his Scottish heritage and being a Cape Bretoner, and returned often to visit family which was important to him. Most of his work was in retail jewelry. His last working years were spent in the automotive industry at Yellowknife Motors, after moving to Yellowknife, NWT, 10 years ago before returning to Halifax, NS, 2 years ago. He was a lover of music and was passionate about riding motorcycles and camping. Avid reader and collector of books, he enjoyed spending time with friends and family and offered his time and help wherever he could. He enjoyed life to the fullest and loved to try new things and stayed up to date on the latest trends.
He is survived by his wife Joan; daughter, Deborah (Patrick); sons, James (Shawnette) of Yellowknife and Darren (Levi) of BC; sister Leona (Peter); brothers John (Margie) of Moncton, Leon (Leyette) of Cheverie, and Gordon (Chris) of Cape Breton; grandchildren Nikita, Louie and Jackson as well as many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by daughter Sharon at birth and older brother Roy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 17, 2013, from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm at J. A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, NS. Memorial service on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at 10 am, at J. A. Snows Memorial Chapel. Burial to follow in Oakridge Memorial Gardens in Lower Sackville. In lieu of Flowers memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation.
