McDonald, Monica Claire (Flinn) – Age 89 of Halifax, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on August 24th. Born July 18, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Jeffrey and Agatha Flinn.
Monica was born, raised and attended school in Halifax, graduating from the Halifax School of Nursing in 1953. Nursing was a lifelong passion which culminated in her retirement after working for some time in the Nova Scotia Eye Centre at the VG Hospital.
A lifelong member of St. Thomas Aquinas parish, Monica was a faith-filled woman, and spent many years volunteering in numerous roles in the parish and the Archdiocese. Her roots in the Charismatic Renewal enabled her to share and be a witness to her faith with many people along the way.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Bill; sons Stephen (Tammy), Sean (Maria) and grandchildren Andrew, Emily, Ellen, Will, Michael and Gianna. She is also survived by her sisters Jean (Rick Coyle) and Peggy (Lou Dursi), as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by an infant son, Michael, brothers Jeffrey, Donald, Jim, Ted, Philip and Joseph (in infancy) and sister Betty.
Monica lived a full life and has left a legacy for all of us to emulate: ‘Well done good and faithful servant, enter into the Joy of the Lord’.
The family would like to thank Mary Smith and the wonderful care team at the Berkeley Gladstone for their compassion, kindness and assistance shown to Monica and our family during the past few months.
Visitation will be at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, Friday August 27, from 4PM-7PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 28th, 10AM, at St. Thomas Aquinas Church on Oxford Street in Halifax. A reminder that you must register on arrival at the back of the church, wear a mask and social distance from anyone not in your immediate bubble.
A private interment for family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chalice (www.chalice.ca), an international aid organization that was dear to her heart.
