Age 85 of Halifax passed away after a brief illness in the presence of his loving family, February 23 at the QE11 Hospital. Sonny was born in Halifax March 21st, 1935 to George and Joyce Singer and called Kline Heights home.
Sonny is survived by his children, Beverly (John) Dimock, Debbie, (Ron) Cass, Michael (Tammy) Singer, Elizabeth (Stanley) Blake. Also survived by grandchildren Amy Davies, Jeremy, Melissa, Joey Duffy, Jenna, Alexis, Dylan Blake, Molly and Jacob Singer, great grandchildren Abby and Brody Davies. He also leaves behind his siblings, Madeline Dexter, Marlene Henley, and brother David Singer. Besides his parents, Sonny was predeceased by his loving wife Betty (Morris), brothers Russel, Royce, sister Jean Osborne.
Sonny was a proud member of the ILA where he was a long shoreman up until his retirement 20 years ago, he was admired by his co-workers and was known to be fearless when it came to the challenges and daily tasks. He had a kind soul and would do anything for his fellow workers, family, and friends. Early in life, Sonny was a milk man with Twin Cities Dairy, he enjoyed his time as ‘the milkman’ which included delivering to the community of Africville and the North end of Halifax. A suffering lifelong Toronto Maple Leaf’s fan he went to heaven thinking this was the year!
After retiring, Sonny and Betty could be found on little adventures around NS or attending one of the many Ceilidh’s with Frank and Lillian Morris, but their true love was their grandchildren, there was nothing either would not do for any of them and it was apparent by the smiles on their faces. When Betty passed away three years ago, she took a major part of Sonny with her, it goes without saying she was there waiting for him when he passed into heaven.
Dad, we will miss you more than words can ever express but we are happy knowing you will be united in heaven with Mom. Keep smiling and do not lose that little twinkle in your eye. The family would like to thank nurse Kathleen and the amazing staff of 8.4 for the wonderful and kind care you showed dad in his final hours of life.
Visitation will be held at the JA Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, Monday March 1st, 6-9 pm. Funeral March 2nd, 11am at J.A. Snow Funeral Home with Rev Trevor Lightfoot presiding.
