It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Campbell on January 11, 2022. Michael passed away peacefully at the QEII Halifax Infirmary with his devoted wife by his side.
Michael was born in Lindsay, Ontario on December 4, 1962 to Douglas and Susan Anne (Roos) Leighton. After a move to Nova Scotia his Mum later married Daniel G. Campbell, who adopted Michael and so lovingly and proudly raised him as his son.
Michael will be deeply missed by his wife and forever soulmate, Joanne (nee Jenkins); father, Daniel (DiAnne), Halifax; father, Douglas (Dorothy), Newmarket, ON; half-sister Kelly Leighton (Mike Bowell), Newmarket, ON; uncle David Roos (Myra), Kentville; Aunt Joy Power (David), Halifax; cousin David Power (Karyn), Halifax; mother-in law Joyce (nee Vessey) Jenkins, PEI; sisters/brothers-in-law: Linda Boswall, Sherry MacLeod (John), David Jenkins (Colleen), PEI; Nancy Heckbert (Ray) Upper Nine Mile River, NS; several nieces and nephews and step-siblings.
Predeceased by his mum Susan Anne Campbell; grandparents Nancy and Edward Roos, Dorothy and Daniel T. Campbell; father-in-law Charles Jenkins and brother-in-law Albert Boswall.
“Uncle Mike” was fondly loved by his nieces and nephews: His ‘little’ Flower Girls Kali and Robyn Jenkins, Julie and Dave McMurrer (children Liam & Sara), Jennifer and Scott Gosse (Reaghan & Garrison), Jeffrey Boswall, PEI; Shawna Heckbert (Kiera), Melissa Heckbert & Chris Andrews (Dominic, Chelsey, and our Angel in Heaven, Savanna), NS.
Although Mike was an only child growing up, his extended family continued to grow. On Dad Campbell’s side, Mike was lovingly and sincerely referred to as their brother by his step-siblings, Doug Low and Debbie (Wayne) Beazley; to their children Hollyann and Mitchell, he was their uncle.
In recent years, Mike was overjoyed to reunite with his birth father and to meet his beautiful half sister Kelly, and step-siblings, Dianne (Chesley) Gates and Darren (Diana) Short. “Half” and “Step” was not a term used between Mike and the girls. “She is my sister” and “He is my brother” they would so proudly say!
Mike was employed at Pratt & Whitney Canada in Enfield for 24 years, where he met some of his long-time best friends.
When Mike purchased his Harley-Davidson Street Glide, he joined the Harley Owners Group (HOG) and the local chapter, Central Chapter Nova Scotia (CCNS). His family extended once again as he made a vast number of friends from all over Canada and into the US. He enjoyed the camaraderie, Sunday rides, weekend getaways and the ‘long-haul’ road trips with Joanne and beloved friends. Mike was extremely active in CCNS where he held positions of Membership Officer, Head Road Captain and Assistant Director. He was an avid volunteer with the Chapter and participated in the planning of numerous events, too many to mention. Many of Mike's fondest memories, favorite life experiences and lasting friendships are attributed to his Harley.
From the time Mike was 7 years old he was a ‘Bully’ fan, inspired by the movie “Oliver”. The love he had for the Bull Terrier breed was remarkable. He is now gone to be reunited with his Bully Babies that he so adored; Sako, Justice, Bree, Kevin and Reba. His “Billy Boy” (Killian) looks for Mike everyday, staring at the garage waiting for Mike to come out.
Michael will be forever missed by many, but especially by his loving wife, Joanne, his “JoJo”.
Cremation has taken place; Interment and a Celebration of Life will be arranged for a later date when the winter chill is gone, the weather is warm and Covid restrictions are reduced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Hope for Wildlife or any Animal Charity of choice.
