When our paths crossed you were living in Toronto in the late 90's with your cousin I believe.   You're spirit and genuine kindness was something you don't come across too often. It's uncanny, to me anyway, how you entered my thoughts the other day and then I saw your name mentioned in the globe and mail the day after that, and now I am here...I had no idea you passed on.   You touched a lot of lives along  the way, and I imagine your legacy of kindness and goodwill will only keep rippling out like a pebble in a pond; you're a person that one thinks about years later with fondness and gratitude for having met and having known for even a short period of time.  Rest in Peace and late condolences to your family.   

Kitty, I know you slightly from Deep Brook days    and we have talked  a bit since my return to my village after 34 years away, in 1990.  I feel a connection to the Forrestalls as 'Nan' was a very good friend to my mother, Nina Adams Young, and 'Nan' was chosen to be my godmother.

I too lost a son, the youngest of my children, Quentin died December 27, 2017 and his birthday was April 12, 1968.  So he and your Matthew were of the same generation.  Quentin was not a musician but quite an artist, making weird and wonderful compositions and creatures out of mainly recycled materials.

I feel for your loss and send my sincere sympathy to you and family.

Oh Kitty, I'm so sorry to hear of Matthew's passing. I remember him from the visits he made to the library when you and I  worked together in  Annapolis and in Bridgetown. He always seemed to me to be an old soul with such a sensitive and vulnerable look to him. So very sorry for your loss.

I only remember him as a Very young boy when you came  to Milford ( Nan & Gramps cottage) to see Aunt Sheila, Vanessa & Uncle Doug! He was 10 years younger than I was!

This is such sad news! 

I had the extreme privilege of playing and writing with Matthew when he lived in Toronto.  Our band BadSister has one recording with Matthew's stellar lead guitar and also features some of the songs he brought with him to the group - "Destruction of a Classic" is about the Halifax explosion and his song "Brodgie" is about his honey bear hookah.  His influence on my own writing and on us as band was positive and explosive and I have followed his life in Halifax as closely as I have been able across the country in BC.  

Sending love to all his family and friends and so grateful to have had the chance to know dear Matthew.  I will remember him always.  <3 

My big brother Ian was a high school friend of Matthews. As a young guy I looked up to that group of friends - and Matthew in particular. In my young eyes here was a guy who was much cooler and more mature than any high school kid I had ever met. He was probably never aware of how much he inspired his friend’s younger brother!

His love of music eventually equated to my own love of design. Thank you Matthew.

Growing up Kittie's home was my second home. I have so many memories of Matthew . Matthew you were a beautiful gifted eccentric soul. I will miss you when i visit. You will always be remembered fondly by me. You were like family . A little brother. 

Matt will be missed. He was a such an amazing guy! I told him one time that some day I want to be in a band (I'm not a musician) and he was like,  "OK! MAN LET'S DO IT!" and we had a band for at least one night. He made me feel like a rock star.  I will remember that forever. At the time I didn't even know how lucky I was to have jammed with him but I will always know how lucky I was to know him.

I met Matthew through my roommate Wendell while I was a student at Dalhousie University. He liked to pop by, unannounced, and hang out; I was always working--I was taking 5 courses and working at a grocery store--but he could drag me out of my room for a meandering conversation. I was always too much of a nerd to be a close friend, but I remember long conversations that bounced from topic to topic--music, poetry, novels, film. I could NEVER keep up on the music, but to this day, I remember those conversations fondly, and he introduced me to SO many bands. Being the nerd I was, I always felt honored to me around him--he was a kind, gentle, wandering genius to me. He made me a mixed tape -- yeah, I know, a tape -- which had a cover decorated with this crazy-ass miniature collage, but it is so precious, I have kept it near by for over 25 years. So sorry I lost touch with him. RIP, Matt.

I was so sad to hear that Matthew had died - the memory that stands out to me was when I was living with him in the 1990’s - he ate spaghetti every day - every day without fail - he would cook up big batches of sauce every week and then everyday he’d eat spaghetti- it amazed me that he was happy to eat the same thing every day - in some ways he was a very simple guy - he had a very gentle soul and the world has lost someone very special

Matt, you will be missed and you'll be remembered fondly. My deepest condolences to all family and friends. 

My memories of Matthew are of hanging out listening to and playing music together.He inspired me to perform a set of my original music and even got the gig for me.But the one memory I have of Matthew always brings a smile to my face even in these sad times.It was a long time ago when we went to chocolate lake and Matthew tried to swim with his jeans on!My condolences to his family ,I wish you strength in your sorrow.Matthew was a musician's musician.
