She will be sadly missed by her four children; Darlene Levangie, Halifax; Derek Saulnier, Dartmouth; Darren Saulnier, Halifax; Duane Saulnier, Wolfville. Mom is survived by her loving grandchildren, Ashlee and Justin, (Derek & Sherri); Maris and Jacquelyn, (Darlene & Bill); Jillian & Brennan (Darren & Christine); Kenzie (Duane & Jeanne) and great grand children; Callee, Brayden, Jonah, Sam, Luke, Will and Benjamin (deceased). Mom cherished and was proud of each one of her family. “Nanny and Grandad’s place was a happy place”.
Mom is also survived by siblings, Margie McDonald and John St. Clair (Irma). She is predeceased by her mother, Gladys Lavers (Gray), father, John St. Clair, and step father Allan Lavers; sister, Heather Siddle, brother, Donnie St. Clair, brothers in law, Tommy McDonald, Barry Siddle and sister-in-law Anna (Roach) St. Clair. Mom will also be greatly missed by her lifelong friend since childhood, Lynn McGrath.
Mom’s greatest pride and joy was her family and all of the achievements each made along the way. From the hockey rinks to school concerts, Mom was an avid cheerleader. The Saulniers are a hockey family and Mom never missed a game live or on TV. In the stands it was not uncommon to hear her ringing her cow bell so long and hard that it once broke and she was presented with a new one.
Mom was devoted to her Catholic faith (Saint Lawrence, Saint Benedict Parishes) and was actively involved in church activities. She was a member of the CWL, church choir and a minister of communion. She also helped out at church functions. Mom also devoted over 25 years serving lunches to seniors at Fairview United Church. She also cooked and provided food for Hope Cottage, a charity that was near and dear to her.
Our home was a happy one, where family and friends were always welcomed. She was a great cook and you never left feeling hungry. Everything she did was done with love. A cousin made a comment that everyone loved Aunt Mary because she was always happy to see you and she always listened to you.
Mom loved to walk, not just for exercise, but also to spend this time in prayer, thanking God for all her blessings.
“Sometimes miracles are just good people with kind hearts.” Unknown
We would like to thank the staff at Ivany Place, in Bedford, for providing a comfortable home for Mom for the past four years. Special hugs to Edith Ritch who began as Mom’s roommate but soon became a very good friend.
Visitation will be held on July 11th from 6 to 8pm in J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax and a funeral mass on July 12th at 12:15pm at Saint Benedict Parish 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax Fr. Simon Lobo officiating. Reception to follow at the church.
