Mary Jane Robertson

The family of Mary (MacNeil) Robertson announces her peaceful passing on October 15, 2013 at Drummond Hall, Parkland Clayton Park . Born in Halifax in 1920 she spent part of her life in Thorburn but returned to Halifax to enjoy "city life". After the war she headed west where she lived for 45 years. Mary was a fiercely independent person and returned to university to obtain a BA in Anthropology and teaching certificate in her early 50’s. She was passionate about teaching and taught primary grade in Chilliwack until her retirement.

Mary led a fulfilling and adventurous life in western Canada, where she acquired a love of Inuit art and made lifelong friendships with many wonderful people. Mary eventually earned her pilot’s licence and bought and flew a float plane to explore and visit friends in more remote locations in B.C.

In 1995, Mary returned home to Halifax where she enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the Halifax Farmer's Market and ‘Casino Sundays’.

Mary spent the last few years at Parkland Clayton Park, where she gave joy to all with her genuine smile and appreciation for her wonderful and dedicated caregivers at Aberdeen, Bradford and especially Drummond Hall.

Mary is survived by her brother John Wallace (Wally) McNeil (Muriel), their children (Danny, Paulette, Cecilia, Gerard, Margie and Mike) and families and her sister Reta Boner and her children (Cathy, Fred and Peter) and families. She also is survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Catherine (Gorman) MacNeil, brother- in - law Larry and her great nephew Bradley.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place in J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax (455-0531) on Monday, October 21, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.
