McIVOR, Mary Eunice – 92, of Halifax passed away peacefully on July 8, 2010 surrounded by family. Born in Freetown, PEI, she was the daughter of the late Alphonsus and Margaret (Deighan) McCarvill. Eunice spent her earlier years in Freetown PEI enjoying the farm, school, and church activities at St. Malachy’s in Kinkora. She married Justin McIvor in 1943 just before he went overseas. After the war, they settled in Saint John, NB, then Truro, NS, before finally moving to Halifax where they resided for the past 50 years. She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish, Children of Mary, the Visitation Committee and was a past President of the Catholic Women’s League. Eunice was an employee of Eaton’s for 18 years. Sewing and quilting were among her hobbies early in life. Later, playing cards, bowling, traveling, gardening, and spending time at their summer cottage entertaining friends and relatives became important. Besides being a very generous, caring and loving person she was also a superb cook, making the simplest meal tast exquisite. She was an excellent home maker, as well as being a great mom and grandmother. Eunice will be sadly missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched. Surviving are sons Paul (Tamara) and Kevin (Aileen) both of Halifax; brother Leslie McCarvill (Joan) Summerside, PEI. Grandchildren, Jason (Kellie) McIvor, Halifax; Chara (Steve) London, Ont; Kimberly McIvor, Hamilton, Bermuda; Daniel McIvor, Halifax. Besides her parents Eunice was predeceased by her husband Justin McIvor in 2008; her son Elmer (Roma) in 2005; sisters Doris (Mrs. Leo Greenan) and Florence (Mrs. Roy Stackhouse); brothers Elmer, Gerald and Celes McCarvill.
Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive on Sunday, July 11th from 2-5pm. Funeral mass will be held at St. Benedict’s Roman Catholic Church on Monday, July 12th at 10am, Father Bernie O’Neill officiating. Burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lower Sackville.
