MARTIN, M. CHRISTINA (Chris). Chris Martin, 86 years formally of Ketch Harbour, died peacefully in Halifax surrounded by family on Saturday, June 8, 2013. Born in Inverness she was the daughter of the late Murdoch and Mary Anne (Jamieson) McKinnon. She worked for the Institute of Public Affairs at Dalhousie University for many years, providing support and guidance for students and professors involved in the distance education program. In later years she worked for Saint Mary’s University in the Business Office. Chris was the matriarch of a large extended family and had a true passion for life, family and music. She will be remembered for her grace, her strength, her legendary hospitality and humour. She is survived by sons: Tom (Angela), Pat (Martha) and Danny; daughter: Sandy (Siem); brothers: Alex (Geraldine), Neil, and Murray (Theresa), sister-in-law Mary Lou (Archibald); 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandson, many nieces and nephews and many in-laws and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Frank, brothers: Hugh, Rupert and Francis (in infancy) and sisters-in-law Barb and Ella. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on Wednesday June 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A Memorial Mass will be held at St Mary’s Basilica on Thursday June 13 at 2:30, with Father Tom Mabey officiating. Internment will take place at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Ketch Harbour.
