Known for her humour, style and utmost class, Mary loved to laugh. She enjoyed regular get-togethers with “the girls”, and Saturday morning coffee at Tim’s.
She was born October 19, 1954 in Lunenburg and grew up in Riverport during the heyday of the fisheries. She met the love of her life, John, after he pulled her over in his RCMP patrol car. They married four years later on June 3, 1978 on the LaHave in Pleasantville where they later built their dream home. Together they raised two children and built a loving home in Halifax. Fond memories include family trips to Sugarloaf and PEI.
Mary was an accomplished runner and completed two marathons in Chicago and Paris, the latter of which she called ‘the best run of her life’. She had a passion for gardening and shared it through volunteer efforts with preschoolers and seniors. Mary rounded out her career with the Department of Health which she found incredibly fulfilling due to daily challenges and her wonderful co-workers. She loved to travel and recently toured Portugal, Greece & Turkey with Istanbul being the stand-out favourite.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Ross & Catherine Ritcey.
She is survived by her husband John, brother Michael (Sharon) daughter Jennifer (Steve) Nelson, Mark (Jill) Chappell, her beloved grandchildren, Nora, Cole, Xander & Max and her much-loved extended family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 10th at 2:00 pm at J.A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory can be made to the IWK Foundation for the Women’s Breast Health Centre at the IWK.
