Marilyn was born in Halifax and was the daughter of the late George and Grace (Wilson) Murphy of Halifax, NS
Marilyn was a long standing member of the Nova Scotia Philatelic Society serving on various committees. She was a leader of the youth stamp club, also serving as a judge at stamp exhibitions. She also volunteered at St. Lawrence Church and St. Benedict’s Church Halifax until her death
She received the Governor General award for Community Tax Volunteer for her long service in 2016 which she did for over 30 years. Marilyn worked for Union Oil, St. Mary’s University and spent her remaining years employed with League Savings (Halifax Location).
Marilyn is survived by her brother, Kenneth (Marion) Murphy; her niece Cheryl (George); nephew, Paul (Nikki); and several grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Melanson, her parents, and brother Donald Murphy.
Visitation will be held Friday March 15 from 5-8pm in J A Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday March 16 at 10am in Saint Benedict Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Saint Benedict’s Parish or a charity of your choice.
