Marian was born in Halifax, the only child of Arthur and Evelyn (Petley) Burns. She was a woman of deep faith, who lived her life in the joy, hope and love that flowed from that faith. She was devoted to her family, her God, and her community. While we are deeply saddened by our mother’s death, we are comforted that she is once again with our dad.
Mom dedicated her life to both her family and the ministry she served with dad. They both worked tirelessly to build community and bring comfort and peace to those they served. We could not begin to express the love and wisdom she bestowed upon us. Her strength was a powerful force in the lives she touched, and her gentle wisdom guided many.
Mom opened her heart to all those who needed love and with dad opened their home to countless. We have no idea how many people had keys to our home on Dublin St. It was never a surprise to arrive home to find someone sleeping in our beds. The door was always open to those in need and to our many neighbours and friends. Mom had an incredible way of mothering all.
Marian is survived by her children: Doug Clarke (Anne); Kathie MacDonald (Alastair); David Clarke (Nicole Chartrand); Patricia O’Halloran (Steven); Don Clarke (Ann); Jennifer Clarke-Hines (Derrick); 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as many good friends.
In addition to her parents, Marian was predeceased by two beloved husbands, her husband of 55 years, Doug Clarke, and her first husband Ralph Sullivan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Cottage or Chalice Canada.
