It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Louise Murray (nee MacLellan) from complications of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy on December 22, 2024, at Maplestone Enhanced Care, Halifax, surrounded by loved ones. Louise grew up in Strathlorne, Cape Breton, and moved to Halifax as a young adult before making her home in Wellington. She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Paul Murray of Wellington, Nova Scotia, and her much-loved daughter, Dr. Jessica Sharpe, and son-in-law, Dr. Shaun Sharpe, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
She is also survived by her siblings, Elizabeth Ann (Ivan) Gillis of Burlington, Ontario; Jane (Lou Delaney) MacLellan of Calgary, Alberta; Arlene (Elwin) Smith of Mabou, Nova Scotia; John (Mayvis) MacLellan of Rivers, Manitoba and Tish MacLellan of Ottawa, Ontario; as well as her sister-in-law Cathy (Frank) MacMillan of Halifax, Nova Scotia. Many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews who live across Canada and the United States will miss their “Auntie Weesie”. She was predeceased by her parents, Ronald and Jessie MacLellan, and her brother, Allan MacLellan, all of Strathlorne, Nova Scotia, and her nephew Justin Ernst of Ottawa, Ontario.
Louise (Weese-E) sadly leaves behind the remaining ladies of the White Point Five (WP5) - Jane Webber, Wenda Densmore, Eleanor Hall, and Laurene MacDonald. A group of friends that carried each other and cared for each other through several decades of teaching, relationships, joys, and losses.
Louise followed in the footsteps of her mother and older sister and chose a career as a teacher. She taught business education in both Sackville and Millwood High Schools for three decades, as well as one year at Inverness Consolidated High School at the beginning of her career. She was genuinely fulfilled by teaching and by her relationships with fellow teachers and students. Her teaching credentials were grounded in a Bachelor of Education degree from Mount St. Vincent University, Halifax, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Mary’s University, Halifax.
We would like to thank the staff of Maplestone Enhanced Care for their support and care of Louise over the past 19 months. We would also like to thank the caregivers who supported and showed kindness to Louise while she was still able to live at home, especially Nancy Gucciardi.
Louise had a love of shoes, dangly earrings, scarves, wearing pink, and having a good laugh!
A celebration of her life will be held on December 29th, 2024 at JA Snow Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax NS from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A formal service will be held from 2:00-3:00 pm, which will be preceded by a visitation and followed by a reception and further visitation. Please feel free to wear pink, dangly earrings, or a beautiful scarf to remember Louise.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to a charity of your choice.
