Born in Halifax on June 17, 1926 he was the son of the late Vincent and Beatrice (Sullivan) During.
Leo served in the Navy during the Second World War. He was the supervisor of Electrical Maintenance with the city of Halifax and retired after 32 years of service. He also worked part-time as a technician on the paramutual machines with the Halifax Harness Horse Club. Leo was a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th degree 1097. He loved to sing, and performed with both Barbershop Harmony groups in Halifax and Dartmouth and the Northwood Players group. Leo was a parishioner and choir member of St. Lawrence Church for over 50 years. He enjoyed hockey and was involved in the Fairview Minor Hockey Association as a coach and President.
Survived by his loving wife Gladys (Harris), daughters; Jayne (Dean), Jackie (Graham) Poole, Terri (David) Thompson, sons; John (Nancy), Danny (Janet) all from Halifax, sister; Mary (Pleman) Bessey, Brooks, Alberta, brother; Fred (Linda), New Jersey, grandchildren; Sarah, Amy, Laurie, Nicole, Charles, Alex, Michael, Dianne, James, Sean, Megan and Jennifer, great-granddaughter Molly.
Predeceased by his brothers Vincent and Raymond.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 17 2013 from 7-9pm at JA Snow Funeral Home 339 Lacewood Dr., Halifax, B3S0E1 (455-0531). Funeral service will take place on Monday March 18, 2013 at 10:30 am at St. Benedict Parish, Rev. Sam Batsa officiating. Private burial at Mount Olivet Cemetery (family only).
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Lung Association, Prostate Cancer Canada or charity of your choice.
