Born in Halifax he was a son of the late Lawrence and Nellie (Smith) Sidney.
Laurie was retired after many years working as an operator with Metro Transit. He loved music, playing the guitar and passing time playing video games. Some of his happiest times were spent with his son building his camp in New Brunswick or attending NASCAR races.
He is survived by his wife if 48 years, Carolyn; son, Charlie (Sharon); sisters, Diane (Gerald) Hardy, Mary, Donna, Patricia; brothers, Paul (Bev) and Bill (Kathleen); grandchildren, Cameron (Molly) and Dylan (Jess); great grandson, CJ; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Barbara Dodsworth and Elizabeth Duncan; and his special uncles, Charles and George Smith
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Hala’s restaurant for calling when Laurie fell, as well as the paramedics and nurse who were on scene when Laurie fell in the parking lot. The ER doctors and specialists who were so determined, nurses, Jennifer Legere and Claire Morton, including all the staff who work with them, the VON, Red Cross and Gabe from Star Medical who had a bed in hours (delivered and set up). A special thank you to the Palliative Care team who were kind, caring and understanding and had appointments booked with Dr. MacNeil and Dr. M Ha within a few days. They were both so tender and caring when it was needed, their nurses whose compassion could be felt, and finally to Snow’s Funeral Home. To all of you our sincere thanks from Laurie’s wife, son and two grandsons.
In keeping with Laurie’s wishes cremation will take place. There will be no visitation or funeral service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
