Joyce Catherine Jones

Of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2016 in the Halifax Infirmary in her 100th year. She was the only daughter of William Drysdale Piercey and Annie Margaret (Forbes). Educated in Halifax schools and Dalhousie University, she taught in Alexandra and Joseph Howe Schools and several County schools. She enjoyed doing volunteer work in her community, and was an active member of Birch Cove Baptist Church. She was predeceased by husbands Rodmond Downey and Lewis Jones and brothers Reginald, Douglas and George Piercey. She is survived by children Marjorie Power (David), Halifax; Geri Downey, Mason’s Point; and Carol Pearce (David), Toronto; and grandchildren, Andrew, Keir, Scott, Christie, Jonathan and Patricia, as well as five great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00am at Birch Cove Baptist Church, 50 Donaldson Ave., Halifax, Rev. John Wilton officiating. Reception to follow. Arrangements are entrusted to J. A. Snow Funeral Home. Family flowers only.
