Joy came to Canada in 1959 to work at Government House in Halifax as a maid. She then worked for the City of Halifax and the Halifax Fire Department for 33 years until her retirement in 1995.
Joy loved to knit for herself and others. She enjoyed reading mysteries and doing crosswords. Prominent in Joy's home was her collection of over 800 pigs, a collection which began when she was just a girl. She and Bill spent many years together at NASCAR in Florida. Later in life Joy enjoyed travel on cruises with friends.
Joy is survived by her sister Doreen Nightingale (England) , nephew Roger (Mary) Nightingale and their daughters and niece Ruth (Liz) Nightingale.
