Josephine (Walker) Basden, in her 96th year. Born in West Virginia, she eloped to Canada at the age of 17. Sadly predeceased by her loving husband Norman and their youngest daughter Bonnie. Jo is survived by daughters Virginia (Ron Maher), Mary (Bernard Power), Barbara Basden, Joanne Basden (late Wayne Loers), Vicki Basden, Donna (James Stewart), son Randall (Mary), and son-in- law John Smith (late Bonnie). She is also mourned by sisters Anna (late Bud Boschian), Shirley (Albert Camp), Phyllis (Kenneth Dye), brother Gerald Walker (Ann), sister-in-law Meleta Basden (late Charles) and good friend Rev. Kay Knott. Jo was grandmother of 20, great- grandmother of 33, great-great-grandmother of 5, aunt and great-aunt to many, many nieces and nephews.
Jo was a remarkable needlewoman, sewing, knitting and quilting throughout her life. She enjoyed a good game of Scrabble or Poker, a trip to a Casino; she was an avid bowler well into her 80's and a dedicated Blue Jays fan.
The family is grateful to Kris and Gracie - her 'Angels' - and all the other "Bayshore girls" who made it possible for Mom to stay in her home, and the staff of the Admiral Continuing Care Residence, who cared for her during her last few years as dementia took away her independence. Arrangements have been entrusted to J.A. Snow's Funeral Home at 339 Lacewood Drive. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 19 from 6 -8 p.m., funeral service at J A Snow Funeral Home on Saturday May 20th at 10 a.m. with interment in Sunrise Cemetery, Prospect Road.
