It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of John O’Connor Robertson of Bedford, on November 26, 2013, following complications from surgery. Born on July 4, 1940 he was the son of the late Gerald Reid and Monica Mary (O’Connor) Robertson. He is survived by his loving wife Donna Forest-Robertson, brothers, Kevin, East River Point and Kirk (Sheila), Ottawa and sister, Heather, East River Point. Surviving are sons, Grant (Krista) Lingley, Dartmouth and Scot Lingley, Halifax, grandsons Alexander and Matthew Lingley, Dartmouth and nieces Kirsten Robertson, Halifax and Karen (Colin) Basmajian, Ottawa. John began his working career with the R.C.M.P. policing in rural Newfoundland as a member of the Marine Division on the ships, French, Irvine, and Wood. His return to Halifax was followed by service to the former City of Halifax in the Building Inspection Department. Upon incorporation of the Town of Bedford, he was appointed Chief Building Inspector, retiring in 1996. During this time he became a Class A Founding Member of the World Organization of Building Officials, instrumental in its affiliation with the Town of Bedford, of which he was extremely honoured and proud. John was passionate about and committed to all of his endeavours. He was a dedicated conservationist and naturalist, whether fishing his beloved lakes in New Brunswick, birding and meandering across the marshes and fields of Nova Scotia. He always kept his eyes on the skies, by day, for the next approaching weather system and by night for the array of stars. His knowledgeable guidance in the workplace, home and neighborhood was invaluable, as demonstrated by the respect and love he has received. At his request there will be no funeral service. Interment will be at a later date. The family will receive visitors on Monday, December 2, between 7 and 9 pm, at JA Snow Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. On line condolences may be sent to www.jasnowfuneralhome.com
