It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. John Gray, age 74, of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, passed away suddenly on February 21.
Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary Gray. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 31 years as a meteorologist technician, visiting many ports of call throughout his career. In his retirement from the military, John enjoyed almost two decades as an event coordinator at Granite Springs Golf Club. He was a lifelong athlete and avid sports fan. His love of hockey extended to decades of coaching and volunteering with Sackville Minor Hockey and as an executive and friend of the Sackville Junior Blazers.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Dianne Gray (Hoganson); daughter Kimberly (Albert) and his beloved grandson Ren; son Chris (Stacey); his sisters Joan (Percy) Newington, Mississauga, Darlene (Darryl) Gerelus, Barrie; brothers Tom (Poppy) Gray, Toronto, Glen (Lynda) Gray, Barrie; and many nieces and nephews and extended family.
John was warm, generous, and a friend to all. His humor and enthusiasm for life will never be forgotten. We love you John/Dad/Pappa.
Funeral service will be held at J.A. Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax on Thursday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. with a lunch reception to follow. Private family burial will take place in the future.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
