Born in Halifax, in 1930, she was a daughter of the late George and Edna (Jollimore) Anderson. Predeceased by her beloved husband Puddy (2015) and her dear sister Verna Condy (1992).
Mom is survived by her children Bob, BC, Diane (Brian Wride) Shediac and Janet (Harry Henteleff) Halifax. Granny is cherished by her grandchildren Chris (Dawn), Jason (Amy), Christina (Kyle) and Julianne (Brad) all of HRM, Mickey (Jess) Vancouver and Joanna (Sam) Seattle. GG will be missed by 8 great grandchildren aged 4 months to 18 years, all of whom she was able to meet. Nieces, nephews and cousins will have fond memories of Aunt Joanie.
She reminisced about her schooling at Sir Charles Tupper, QEH and The Halifax Children’s Hospital, R.N. Class of 1951. She vividly recalled Wartime events such as blackouts, Military Boarders and the flyover of the Hindenburg. Joanie played basketball for QEH and loved to remember her fun at Twixteen Dances.
She married Dad, Robert (Puddy) Reardon, in 1953, and they became an RCAF family in 1961. Throughout their postings Mom continued to nurse in various fields, Paediatrics, Rural Health, NDHQ and Geriatrics. She enjoyed life and was thankful to be part of so many activities, family gatherings and trips down memory lane. Joanie skated, swam, golfed (a little!), curled, was a Girl Guide leader, sewed, knit, painted, braided rugs and quilted, with projects left for us to complete. She read every page of the daily Herald and did the puzzles with ease. She was an animal magnet like her Jollimore Uncles, from deer to mice and cats to bats. Our dogs, Dixie and Tucker, will miss her terribly. Our cottage in Queensland, “Camp”, will never be the same without her. There, she loved watching the ‘sun dance off the ocean’, taking the dogs for beach walks, sunning on the deck and the roaring fire with news or sports on TV.
Visitation will be Sunday January 7, 2023 from 1-3 pm at J.A.Snow’s Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive. Funeral Mass will be held at 10am, Monday, January 8th in Saint Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 1288 Bedford Highway, Bedford.
Donations to NS Arthritis or Alzheimer's Societies, NS SPCA or CNIB will be appreciated.
