Age 95, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27 at Northwood Centre. Born February, 1919 in Point Cross, Inverness County, she was the daughter of the late Severin and Marie (Lefort) Aucoin.
In her younger years she was a governess and house-keeper to several very prominent families in Halifax. She was active for many years in the Red Cross and other such pursuits in her middle age. Overall, her most rewarding accomplishment was successfully raising her three children. Perhaps not fully appreciated at the time, Mom will certainly be remembered with great love for the dedicated care and attention she gave. Being a true Cape Bretoner, she always enjoyed a good game of cribbage. She was an excellent cook and was a “foodie” before that term was known.
She is survived by sons Scott (Ann-Louise), Bedford, Robin (Kim), Ottawa and daughter, Janice (Michael) Foley, Myer’s Point; sister, Yvonne (Fred) Christ; grandchildren, Matthew Foley, Sarah (Robin) Miller, Isaac Foley, Seth Foley and Lindsay Taylor; great-granddaughter, Sadie Miller and numerous special nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Amedee, Louis, Thomas, Delphin, Luke, George, and Joseph; and sisters, Sophie, Lucy and Adelaide.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, January 31st at Northwood Centre, Penthouse Suite. Her son-in-law, Rev. Michael Foley will be officiating. Interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations please to The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia in Mom’s memory.
