Age 74, Janet Elizabeth Paton (née McNaught), passed away peacefully on May 20th, 2017 at home. Born in Stratford, Ontario on October 19, 1942, she is survived by her loving husband, Barry, children Mark and Tara (Brian) Nicholson, grandchildren David and Simon. Janet is also survived by her sister, Donna McNaught, and her brothers Bill (Bette) and Tom (Carilyn) McNaught and sister-in-law Mary Ellen McNaught. She was predeceased by her parents, Melville and Irene McNaught, her brother David and sister Lorna (in infancy).
A Graduate of Kitchener-Waterloo School of Nursing, she met and married Barry and together, they became proud Maritimers as they settled in to raise a family in Halifax, NS. A devoted mother of two, she always had a twinkle in her eye, a ready smile and made everyone she met feel welcome and loved in her home. An avid gardener, her flowers brought joy to all those who came by their house on Colindale Street.
Blessed with many opportunities to travel the world, beginning with a year abroad in England, she and Barry globe-trotted throughout their retirement.
Janet’s life was defined by her love of family and friends remaining strong in the end as she battled courageously with ALS. She enjoyed the visits of many friends and family, who repaid the love and kindness she showed in her last days.
She was a very active member of Bethany United Church where she was a member of the choirs and taught Bible study. Also a teacher of elder-aerobics and Weight Watchers, she was always active, whether leading a class, riding her bike or swimming near her house at Williams Lake or at their cottage on Spondo Lake outside of Mahone Bay.
Visitation will occur on Saturday May 27th, 2017 at the Chapel of Bethany United Church (7171 Clinton Ave.) 7-9pm. Her funeral service will be held at 4:30pm on Sunday May 28th at Bethany United Church with Rev. Kevin Little officiating.
Funeral arrangements by Snow’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations to the ALS Society would be welcomed.
