Janet Murray
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Janet Irene Murray, age 85, on Friday November 3, 2023, at the Halifax Infirmary.
Janet was the first child of William and Annie Murray of Scotsburn, Nova Scotia and was born on January 13, 1938. She graduated from Pictou Academy and went on to study nursing at the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing, in New Glasgow, graduating in the class of 1960A. Nursing brought her to Halifax, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She spent the later part of her nursing career at the Victoria General Hospital as head nurse of the plastics and general surgery clinics. She was highly regarded for her professionalism by all her colleagues and co-workers. She retired at the young age of 50 and enjoyed traveling to exotic places with her dearest friends. She enjoyed watercolor painting and having friends over for dinner and bridge.
Janet will forever be remembered by her friends and family as a kind, generous, and thoughtful person who loved a good story and a good laugh. Always welcoming everyone to her home for food, friendship, and dessert, which may have varied but the ice cream had to be from Scotsburn!
Janet is survived by her sister Betty Caissie (Gerald), and brothers Lloyd Murray (Jane) and Ronnie Murray, along with many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Janet’s caregivers in her final years at Melville Heights and especially her niece Jennifer Stuart and nephew Robert Caissie.
A celebration of life in the form of a drop-in tea party will be held at Cruikshank’s Funeral Home on Windsor Street in Halifax on Monday, November 13th from 11am to 1pm.
