Janet Marguerite Ells

Janet Marguerite (Hennigar) Ells, age 79 of Halifax, passed away suddenly on June 25, 2014. Born in Chester Basin, NS, she was a daughter of Kirk Stanley Malcolm Hennigar and Marguerite Blanche (Hiltz) Hennigar.

An avid bridge player, bowler, golfer, and sing-along participant, she graduated from Acadia University in Home Economics, and worked as a secretary for Eastern Trust Company in Halifax and Moncton before raising her family in New Glasgow, St. John’s, and Halifax. Her extensive volunteer work included numerous church and community activities and organizations.

Survived by her husband, James B. Ells; daughter, Karen Lynn Kartusch (Mark); son, Kevin James Ells (Ginger); brother, Robin Stanley Kirk Hennigar (Janet); 2 grandchildren, Matthew and Katherine Kartusch, goddaughter Sophia Odessa Lytle, 4 nieces and nephews, and 8 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Predeceased by her parents and sister, Beverly.

Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Sunday June 29 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (455-0531). Memorial service will be held 2 pm Monday June 30 at the Anglican Church of the Apostles (formerly St. Phillips), the Reverend Mark Marshall officiating, reception to follow on premises.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or the Canadian Cancer Society.
