Jim was born in Halifax, the son of the late James Hugh Shea and the late Mary Lillian (Butt) Shea. James was a proud member of the Halifax’s North End Community, where he grew up, met and married his soul mate, Barbara. He had a number of occupations and businesses over the years, but will be most remembered as a barber. He ended his career as the owner of Demone Barber Shop, where he and his customers would spend their days sharing stories, talking politics, solving the world’s problems and creating “fortunes” in the stock market. He had a beautiful voice and never let a day go by without sharing a song.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Barbara (MacPherson) Shea; son, Paul (Daphne), Upper Tantallon; daughter, Eileen (Brian) Kelly, Halifax and sister Helen (William) Leahy, Ottawa; four grandchildren, Robert and Lesley Shea, Upper Tantallon, and Ryan and Megan Kelly of Halifax.
He is predeceased by sisters, Catherine (Mickey) Buck and Madeleine Mortlock.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the many health care practitioners who cared for Jim especially Dr. Burton, Dr. Goff and the staff of 8.4 of the QEII Hospital who made Jim’s last few days as comfortable as possible. Jim will be waked at J. A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, on Tuesday, April 11 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 12 at 10:30 am at Saint Benedict Church, 45 Radcliffe Drive, Halifax NS, with reception to follow in J A Snow Funeral Home
