Ian David Stewart, of Halifax, October 25, 1970 – June 25, 2024. Ian passed away pain free and peacefully, after a sudden short illness, at the Halifax Infirmary, 5.2 Intensive Care Unit, under the amazing and kind care of the ICU staff.
Born in Vancouver, Ian spent most of his life in Halifax with occasional stints in Toronto and Moncton. He is survived by step-father Ron Stockton, son Jack, three uncles: David, Matthew, and Peter Maxwell, cousins Christopher Maxwell, Heather Maxwell, Laura Maxwell, and Malcolm Maxwell. He is predeceased by his loving mother Bernadette Maxwell, his father Jack Stewart, his sister Christina Stewart, and his brother Tim Stewart.
Ian was different and he lived a different life but as his friends describe him, “he was a loving person, he helped so many people and he always thought of others before himself.” Despite the difficulties in his life he left a legacy that will be remembered, he made his contribution.
There are many people whose lives Ian touched and from whom he found great love and support, not the least of whom are his dear friends Liam and Scott, the kind folks working at Out of the Cold, folks he knew at MOSH, and Dr. Mike and the staff at the North End Community Health Centre.
We are forever grateful to the staff at the Halifax Infirmary, Emergency Department and 5.2 Intensive Care Unit. Their skill, dedication, and empathy, and above all, their kindness, was appreciated by Ian and his friends and family for the short time he was in their care. As Ian said, “they are amazing people”.
Cremation has taken place and his remains will join those of his mother and brother.
