Hewson Hans Bone Ray

Beloved son of Maya Ray, Andrew Bone and Kristen Harper and brother to Marley Harper, Hewson Ray passed away suddenly Saturday, February 22, after a happy road trip with friends and a lovely family dinner.

Hewson was a smart, funny, kind, loving, adventurous and talented young man, with a passion for food, art and photography (@hewson.photo). He loved exploring nature and had a strong sense of environmental justice. He lived life bravely and to the fullest, accomplishing anything he put his mind to.

Hewson graduated from Citadel High School in 2019 with Honours and was the proud recipient of many scholarships and bursaries. He was in his second semester at St. Mary’s University where he was working towards a degree in business and environmental studies and was actively involved in Enactus St Mary’s, a non-profit society, developing economic, social and environmental initiatives. He was looking forward to sharing his first apartment with his friends in July and planning road trips this summer with friends. He enjoyed his time working at Burrito Jax, Norbert’s Good Food and the Halifax Watch Company.

Hewson loved to travel and was able to explore many cities and countries but most memorably Iceland, The Netherlands, Washington, New York City and the Rockies. Hewson would often get up at the crack of dawn to hike and explore and take advantage of the best light for taking pictures, his passion.

Hewson was such a bright light to so many; his joy for life, his quirky sense of humour and genuine ability to relate to everyone he encountered will be deeply missed. Hewson loved and adored his friends deeply, and his parents want to thank them for their love and support for Hewson.

Besides his parents and his large group of friends, his memory will be dearly cherished by his grandparents Janet Bone, Nilkamal Ray, Beatrijs Smit Sibinga-Glenny (Robert), and Sandy and Wayne Harper; his aunts/uncles Jamie Bone (Louise Arsenault), Susan Bone (Ben Davis), Shanta Ray-Schurek (Chris), Kamala Ray (Chris), Onil Ray (Michelle), Krishna Ray, Mark Simkins; his cousins Cooper, London, Nadia, Jes (Landon), Amelia, Simon, Sam (Bryan), Jaedon, Megan and Maddie and his wider extended family in Canada, the Netherlands and India.

We will hold a celebration of Hewson’s life Saturday, February 29 between 2 and 5 pm, at Snows Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Please bring your memories, stories and love. All are welcome, especially his friends and classmates.
