COVEY (Welch), Helen Jean – 79 of Halifax, passed away peacefully, in the arms of her children, on Friday July 6, 2012 at the Halifax Infirmary. Jean was born in Moncton, New Brunswick. She was the daughter of William and Helen Welch. Jean’s entire life revolved around service to God and to people in need. Over the course of that life, she was a Captain in the Salvation Army, a loving wife, a mother of two adopted children, and a volunteer teacher and support worker at Halifax Christian Academy (1975-88). In her later years she returned to the Salvation Army as a Soldier at the Halifax Citadel Community Church, where she continued to serve and bless many whose lives she touched. In her spare time she enjoyed needlework and playing Scrabble.
She is survived by her daughter Helen Teed (Jeff), son James (Dawn Morrison), brother Harold, grandchildren Amanda and Alyssa Teed, stepgrandchildren Maxwell and Olivia Billard, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Russell Covey (died 1998). Jean held a special place in her heart for her child that did not survive to birth, whom she named Paul.
Visitation will be in J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax (453-0531) on Wednesday, July 11th from 1:00 – 3:00 pm, immediately followed by interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lwr. Sackville. Memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, or the Canadian Diebetes Association.
