Harvey Lawrence Astroff (Laurie) passed away peacefully at the QEll in Halifax NS on April 22, 2024 at 81 years of age after a lengthy illness.
Laurie was born in Halifax, NS. The son of the late Betty (Zatzman) and Jack Astroff, he was raised with his younger sister Ellen Cohen (Jeff). Laurie graduated from Kings College in Windsor NS. He spent his summers at Camp Kadimah where he made lifelong friends and later served on the board. Laurie went into his father's delicatessen business, Astroff's on Dresden Row. His smoke meat on rye was a gourmet delight. Astroff's attracted a loyal clientele. For many it was the place to go for select cheeses and unique delicacies. For many customers part of the pleasure of going to Astroff's was the man himself. While reserved he always enjoyed a chat and a good laugh with his customers.
Laurie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and a hard-working businessman. His commitment to family and the Jewish community were his priorities. He left a legacy, a family and immeasurable life lessons that we will continue to adhere to. He will be remembered for his fabulous sense of humor and kind heart.
Laurie leaves behind his beloved wife Marsha of fifty-three years, son Robert (Dorete) Astroff, daughter Heather (David Anderson) his sister Ellen (Jeff Cohen) and sister-in-law Carol lee Loebenberg. Many nieces, nephews and cousins and most precious of all his four grandchildren, Sylvie and Gabe Anderson and Jacob and Solomon Astroff.
The family wishes to thank the personal care workers who helped look after Laurie over the last year.
Funeral services will be held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home on April 25, 2024 at 3pm, interment immediately following at the Beth Israel cemetery located on Connaught Avenue.
