We regret to announce the passing of our sister, Ms. Harriett Grant, age 91, on Sunday, October 29th, 2023 in Camp Hill Veteran’s Memorial Building, Halifax.
She was the daughter of the late Walter and Helen (Thompson) Grant of Glace Bay.
She graduated from Morrison Glace Bay High School and went on to become Executive Secretary in a career of forty-four years in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Ontario. She also worked with the Federal Government and Royal Canadian Navy in Halifax for nine years.
Harriett was a member of the United Baptist Church and was active in all phases of church life. She also worked in the Atlantic Baptist Convention and Canadian Baptist Federation offices of the denomination. Harriett devoted over sixty-five years to volunteering, with visits to hospitals, veteran’s homes, and Northwood Nursing Home.
She is survived by sisters, Patsy and Helen Grant and sister-in-law, Doris (Shepherd) Grant of Glace Bay, many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
Harriett was predeceased by brothers, Earle (Doris), Jack (Mary) and Shepherd and by sisters, Anna (Russell) Fletcher and Ruth (Allan) Frost.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 18th from 12:00 pm to 1:45 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 pm and a short reception, all taking place in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay. Interment to follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice or to the Salvation Army, Glace Bay.
