With broken hearts we announce the passing of Joey on November 13,2023 surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney, NS, He is survived by his wife and best friend, Serena Landry, parents George and Elizabeth (MacNeil) Young (Sydney), siblings Alison Young (Okotoks, AB), Steven Young (Kelowna,BC), parents-in-law Donald and Janice Landry, Brothers (in-law) Jarrett (Krista), Brennan (Larissa) all of Lower South River, Jordan (Darcy), Duffield, AB. He loved his nieces and nephews Robyn, MacKenzie, Aidan, Willow, Lilly, Nixon, Madison, Austin, Dawson, Charlie, Tommy, Beau, Ella, Ethan and Auggie. He is also survived by his grandmother, Laurie Young, Sydney, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He loved animals, especially his best bud Louie. Predeceased by his grandparents Neil and Agnes (Lynch) MacNeil.
His friends were the best and played an important part in his life. He cherished the many adventures and the bonds they shared. “One of a kind is an understatement for Joe. He was a special kind.”
Joey was selfless, courageous, generous, kind, and humorous. He was not scared to take a chance and if he was it did not show. He influenced many people positively in their perspective on life. He faced his illness with grace and strength. He spoke frequently about how beautiful life is and to live each day like it was your last. He was grateful for having had a remarkable life.
By trade, Joey was an electrician (co-owner of Light It up Electric). His many achievements included his childhood dream of being a firefighter (employed by HIAA). He was a volunteer for Sydney River and Hatchett Lake Fire Departments, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and Canadian Blood Services. Sports was a big part of his life, whether playing or watching hockey, golf, or football, to name a few.
