MYLES, George James born May 10,1939 passed away at Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Center on December 26th. Born in Jersey Harbour, Newfoundland he was the son of the late Annie (Strowbridge) and John Myles. In his early years George taught at Lark Harbour School before relocating to Halifax in 1962 with his future wife, Barbara Stokes. George began his career in Halifax working for Halifax Transit as a bus driver and then went on to CN/VIA Rail until his retirement.
George is survived by his children Davan (Shelley); James (Kim) and Cheryl Berakos (Steven) as well as his grandchildren James Myles (Jen); John Berakos (Megan); Katie Berakos (Chris), Harrison Myles along with his great granddaughter, Moira Berakos. George is also survived by his sister, Minnie Anderson (Dartmouth); sisters-in-law Jean Howse Babstock, Isabel Parsons, Vera (Cyril) O’Keefe, Margaret (Robert) Gillard; brothers-in-law Harold (Myra) Stokes, Lorne (Sharon) Stokes all of Newfoundland and many nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Barbara Myles (Stokes); his parents Annie (Strowbridge) and John Myles; his mother and father-in-law, Herbert and May Stokes, his brothers-in-law George Anderson; Harvey Parsons; and sister-in-law Shirley (John) Ford.
George was very active in the Philae Shriners, Keith Lodge #17, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and The Order of the Eastern Star for many years.
Arrangements are under the care of Snow’s Funeral Home on Lacewood Drive. A Private Family service is being held due to Covid restrictions. The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the staff at Melville Lodge for the love and care they have provided.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children and The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
