It is with deep sadness that we share the loss of our father, husband, brother and friend on Thursday February 18 2021. Gary passed at home with the love and support of his family
Gary had a very wide reach in his life, anyone who had the pleasure of meeting him knew of his absolute sincere interest in them and their lives. He was always focused on knowing people and enjoying them.
Born in Glace Bay, son of the late Greg McIntyre and the late Rosena Lelievre, he attended St Michaels High School and was a proud St FX alumnist. His business degree was well used over the years as he built his career in the insurance industry. Gary started on the business side of the industry working for Travellers, Wellington, ING and Intact insurance. He stepped into the world of insurance brokerage purchasing first Hefler Inkpen Hardy Freeman followed by Stevens and Smith Ins. building a lifetime of friends, clients and staff.
Following his retirement in 2014 he and his wife Nancy headed off to winter in Sarasota to do what he loved most - play golf. His friends at Ashburn Golf course will surely miss his flashy colours, in both his clothing and humour. Beige was not a shade in Gary’s wardrobe.
He was so proud of his daughter Meaghan and his son Matt. Both of whom he coached on the ice, the soccer field and in life. Anyone who knew Gary knew all about his family, conversation didn’t go very far without mention of what his kids were up to now.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years Nancy (McIntyre), daughter Meaghan and son Matthew. Sister Yvonne (Jack) Tanquiy and niece Carolyn. Also survived by sisters in law Donna Height, Dartmouth, Karen (Ross) Palmer NB, brothers in law Reg (Jean) McIntyre Antigonish, Norman McIntyre Toronto, Roy (Robin) McIntyre Pictou and several nieces and nephews.
In memory of Gary be kind to all the dogs in the world. There was not one he ever met that he did not love - especially his grand dog Zoey. And please donate to a local rescue or shelter, spend some time with those who are lacking in love and attention - things that were never in short supply in Gary’s life.
As per Gary’s wishes his body has been cremated under the direction of J. A. Snow Funeral Home, Halifax.
