On Wednesday, March 14, 2018, just weeks shy of his 97th Birthday, Elliott Sidney Henry was ushered into the presence of his Saviour. Born and raised in Halifax, N.S to his predeceased parents, John Geddie Henry and Winifred May Henry (Lindsay), as well as his four late brothers, Everett Monson Henry, Beverley Lindsay Henry, Gerald Geddie Henry and Ronald Ainsley Henry.
With a love for life and family, Elliott enjoyed having people around him. He was known for his warm hugs and bright smile. A familiar quote was “Any day I can get both feet on the ground is a good day.” Thankfully he was able to do that to the very end.
Elliott spent most of his life in sales. He was enlisted in the Army during World War II until he was discharged due to his hearing loss. He shared many memories of his time at home on anti-aircraft guns and tracking through the woods of Kentville in basic training.
Elliott was also known as “Mr. Fix It”. There was very little that he could not build, repair or fix and was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need.
His faith and church were of utmost importance to him. He served in various capacities in the former Central Baptist Church, now Sheffield Baptist Church. He had a love for his Lord and looked forward to the day he would meet his Saviour.
Elliott leaves behind his beloved wife, Rita Catherine Henry (MacDonald), three sons, David Keith Henry (Melodie), Timothy Lindsay Henry (Sabrina), John Elliott Henry (Kimberly), Grandchildren, Matthew Henry (Ashley), Jennifer Henry (Adam), Lindsay Henry (Rob), Christopher Henry, Alexandria Henry, Liam Henry, Sydney Henry, Rachel Henry, great-granddaughters, Isla Huffman and Ivy Huffman, as well as dear friends Roy Kinghorn (Carol) and Rev. Lawrence and Lena Meade.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at Sheffield Baptist Church, 80 Lincoln Cross Drive in Halifax.
The family thanks everyone for their prayers, love and kind thoughts. Elliott will be deeply missed by his loved ones; however his kindness, joyful outlook on life, and the love he shared will continue to be remembered by all he touched.
Donations can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Sheffield Baptist Church.
