It is with heavy hearts that the Brown family share the passing of Eleanor Margaret, of Herring Cove, at the age of 90. Eleanor, known affectionately as Nanny Brown, GG, and Girlie, passed away February 24, 2017 at the Halifax Infirmary with her family by her side.
Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of Stella (Fawson) and Alan Wilson.
After raising her children, Eleanor worked at Stadacona, and then the Halifax Dockyard. She was part of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Herring Cove Volunteer Fire Department for many years. She enjoyed weekly card games with the neighborhood ladies, and many bus trips with her sister and friends. She spent countless hours knitting dishcloths, and in her later years she looked forward to Thursdays with her spiritual friends, especially Janet and Susan. Eleanor was the pillar of her large family, and “held court” every Sunday afternoon, where family members would drop by to visit. Eleanor will be remembered for her love and dedication to her family and her spirited personality.
Eleanor was predeceased by her loving husband, Arnold, brothers Alan and James Wilson, and son-in-law Brian Goulden.
She is survived by her children: Karen (Morris), Donna, Richard (Kathryn), Paul (Patti), and Tricia (Brent), sister Lorraine Wilson, sisters-in-law Olive Martin and Eunice Brown, grandchildren Michelle (Tiffany), Amy (Mark), Matthew (Kaitlin), Jeffrey (Leeanne), David (Veronica), Ashley (Matthew), Andrew (Sarah), Ryan (Kelly), Sarah (Danny), Danielle (Ross), Alex (Petra), and Taylor, great-grandchildren: Kayla, Reiley, Parker, Jesse, Owen, Aubrey, Declan, and Beau, and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, 137 Hebridean Dr, in Herring Cove at 10 am on Thursday, March 2, 2017, officiated by Father Alfred Eshun. Cremation has taken place, and there will be a family burial at St. Paul’s Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the IWK Children’s hospital, or a charity of your choice.
Special thanks to her homecare workers, and to the QEII emergency staff, and the staff of 4.2 and 3 IMCU.
