Eldon John Poole, age 103, passed away at Maplestone Enhanced Care on July 11, 2020. He was born in Halifax December 31, 1916, the sixth of twelve children born to William and Louisa (Millward) Poole.
He was an honest man of his word, a gentle man with a dry sense of humor, a well- liked man and a friend to many. He was always inquisitive; lived in the moment; loved to watch wrestling; and took a keen interest in anything to do with real estate. He took pride in fixing things and imagined his capabilities limited only by “a broken heart or the break of day”. His ‘can do’ spirit will be missed.
Eldon was proudly a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, receiving his 50-year jewel in 2003. His interest in cars was life-long. He spent his working life employed as a mechanic in the Halifax area, until his retirement. In later years, he took an interest in gardening; enjoyed his visits to Lake Charlotte; Poole dinners in Herring Cove and the company of his Richardson nieces, nephews and their families at regular gatherings.
He loved his family. His wife, Mae (Richardson) passed away in 1975. He is survived by his two daughters Jacqueline (London, Ontario) and Jeannie (Halifax). He was predeceased by brothers Bev, Joe, Ernie, Ron, Fred; sisters Phyllis, Ruby, Alice, Jean, two siblings in infancy and son-in-law Jack. He leaves behind many nieces, nephews and their extended families.
A graveside service will be held for family members Thursday July 16, 2020 at 2:00 PM in Fairview Lawn Cemetery. If you wish, donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Condolences, words of comfort and memories of Eldon may be shared at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
The family is sincerely appreciative to all staff of Maplestone for the kind, loving, compassionate care and support he enjoyed during his stay with them.
