POWER, Edna Shirley, 77, of Halifax, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2018 following a valiant battle with late stage pancreatic cancer. Edna welcomes a reunion with her beautiful and beloved first born, Diane, who died suddenly two years ago, many family members, friends and furry companions, especially Benji and Angel.
Remaining to mourn Edna, to celebrate her tenacity, strength and feisty spirit are siblings (and their children), Marie (Maurice-deceased), Florence (Paul), Teddy (Cheryl) and Brenda Lee (Phil), her surviving children from her previous marriage to Peter A. Crossley (deceased), Karen and Brad (Leslie), both of whom lovingly supported their mother and each other in the time preceding, during and following her passing. Edna’s legacy lives on in the grandchildren and great-grandchild she cherished, April (Tommy), Wayne (Kaitlyn), Alexis (Matt), Haley, Brett, Brady, and Ashley Comeau-first and only great-grandchild.
The family acknowledges Carl J. Power, husband of more than three decades for his devotion to Edna during her last months, and contribution towards alleviating her end of life concerns.
Edna was predeceased by her mother and father, Francis (Delaney) and Eddie Miller, sister, June (Leonard) and much loved extended family members.
An avid skater, ice hockey player with Fairview Acettes, ten pin bowler, candle pin bowler with Simpson’s League and marathon swimmer, Edna’s appreciation for and active participation in sports was instilled in Brad, her son. Her enthusiasm, Brad’s passion and Leslie’s encouragement and support are significant components in her grandchildren’s exploration and successful experience with sport. Indeed Edna attended as many of their events as feasible, until she was no longer well enough to do so. She maintained her commitment by watching and /or listening to games, news programs, interviews and more.
Edna also enjoyed following her family and engaging in animal rights activism via Facebook. A consummate professional, Edna worked as Administrative Assistant to Edward Roach, CEO and owner of Northwood. Thereafter, she was employed as Executive Administrative Assistant to the ED of Tourism Halifax from whence she retired.
Edna and family extend great gratitude to the O”Hara family, especially Phil, Melanie and Chris, who offered their precious resources and special talents at our time of greatest need, Liam for provision of his incomparably scrumptious shortbreads, which were enjoyed during visits with family and friends, Dr. Trager (family doctor of 40 years), Dr. Gord Gubitz for his compassionate and non-judgmental support, Monica Flynn (RN), Erica (NP) and fine folks & friends at Northwood.
Visitation will be held Sunday, March 11 at 2-5 pm in Cruikshanks Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax, where service will also take place on Monday, March 12 at 2 pm followed by reception.
