MacDonald, Dorothy Ruth (Whynot) – 86, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Parkstone Enhanced Care in Halifax, where she had been a resident for 3 years. Dorothy was born on October 25, 1931, to Harry and Mary Whynot in Pleasantville/Lake Centre, Nova Scotia. She was predeceased by her husband, Terrance B. MacDonald, as well as her parents. Dorothy was a nurse at the Grace Maternity Hospital where she worked for many years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, knitting and bingo and was known by all for her whoopee pies. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Robert (Gail) of Shad Bay, Barry (Kelley) of Halifax and Kathy of Whites Lake, as well as by grandchildren, Joseph (Nyssa), Emma, Gillian, Alicia and Victoria, and her best friend since childhood, Gloria Hagerty. A special thank you to the staff at Evans Hall and Citadel Court, Shannex, for their care and kindness over the last three years. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2018, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with words spoken at 6:15 at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Burial will be attended by family only at Gate of Heaven Catholic Cemetery, 52 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, on May 10, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Nova Scotia.
