Curry, Dorothy Ethel (Francis) – Halifax, Nova Scotia, 96, passed away peacefully at Kingswood Residence on March 6, 2015. Born in 1918 in Sussex, New Brunswick, she was the younger daughter of the late William Taylor and Ethel Elizabeth (Gray) Francis. On March 6, 1943 she married Ernest Curry. 'Dot' devoted her life to raising their family and contributing to the community. She was actively involved with the Girl Guides of Canada. Being an accomplished typist, Dot prided herself in helping numerous students and professors from Dalhousie University complete their research papers. Dot was known for her strong opinions regarding politics and women's issues. In later years the family referred to her affectionately as “DeeDee”. In retirement she and her husband, Ernie, spent winters in Florida returning to Halifax each spring to her gardening, oil painting and their summer cottage at Sole's Lake. Her strength of character, determination and wonderful sense of humour will be remembered by all who knew her. She created wonderful family occasions which resulted in a host of lasting memories. Dorothy is survived by her two daughters Pamela Jane Miller (Jonathan) and Linda Francis Curry Little (Gregory) of Halifax; grandchildren, Jason Matthew (Elizabeth) Miller and their daughters, Nicole Alicia and Emily Rachel, Fall River; Christopher Alexander (Darin Ruangruchira) Miller, Halifax; Jane Elizabeth (Christopher) Caudle and daughter Grace, Hatchet Lake; Brian Gregory (Jean) Little, Halifax and Graham Taylor Little, Edmonton, Alberta and by her brother William Gray (Keitha) Francis, Dartmouth; cousin Kaye Archibald, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest and her sister Jean Taylor (Ivan) Gittens. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 6:00-8:00 pm and Funeral on Wednesday, March 11 at 2:00 pm at J. A. Snow's Funeral Home, Lacewood Drive, Halifax. Private family burial will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
