Dorothy Lawrie Brunt of Halifax, passed from this life peacefully on April 14, 2024 at Northwood Ivany Place in Bedford. Born June 12, 1927 in Sydney NS, she was the only child of the late James S. Lawrie and the late Florence M. (DeMont) Lawrie Zwicker.
Following a move to Halifax in 1934, Dorothy attended Sir Charles Tupper School, the Halifax Ladies’ College and then transferred to Queen Elizabeth High School its opening year in 1942. Following a secretarial education, she was employed at Imperial Oil Ltd in the engineering department.
Dorothy was a caring daughter who modelled love in action and was a caregiver for her own mother for a number of years. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was humble and kind with a ready smile and a delightful sense of humour. Because of her vibrant and deeply rooted faith, she demonstrated love freely and touched many lives. She cared compassionately for people confined to their homes because of poor health. She visited them regularly and for many years she served the elderly and widows in her neighbourhood. As a committed follower of Jesus, her unwavering faith in him kept her strong and grounded throughout the years and provided her with complete peace as she was leaving this life to be in his presence forever.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Roy in 2019. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn, and her husband, Bruce Havill; son Gordon and his wife, Shirley (Todd); grandchildren: Allison Havill and her husband Kevin Frame (Vernon, BC), Amy Havill Landymore and her husband William (Wenham, MA), Graham Brunt and Laura Brunt, both of Halifax. She is further survived by her great-grandson, Griffin Landymore and great-granddaughters, Violet and Ellie Landymore.
A service of remembrance and thanksgiving will be held at 11am on Saturday April 20th at West End Baptist Church. Members of her family will be available to welcome guests at 10:20 and a reception will follow the service. A private family burial service will be held at Fairview Cemetery.
