It is with sadness our family announces the passing of Debbie Howie, age 67, on March 31, 2023. Born in Halifax, NS, she was the daughter of the late Leigh and Amy (Feindel) Stewart. Debbie is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Murray Howie; sons, Michael (Margo) Howie; Jeffery (Kerry) Howie; grandchildren Sarah, Jack, Rachel and Ryan; sisters DiAnne (Danny) Campbell and Kerri (Kevin) Jack; and many nieces and nephews.
After finishing high school, Debbie and Murray moved to Ontario where they were married and began their family. While working and raising two young boys, Debbie attended night classes at Ryerson University to learn data entry and in the summer of 1980 she and Murray decided to move back to Halifax to be closer to their families. Debbie worked at a local building supplier for a few years and then accepted a position with the Province of Nova Scotia’s Registry of Motor Vehicles while Murray was a Stationary Engineer at Ben’s Bakery where he worked until it’s closure in 2015. Debbie also lived with multiple sclerosis for most of her adult life and in time it forced her to transition from the job she loved in 2008 after 14 years. Although Debbie’s disease progressed over time, she always had a positive outlook on life and a sunny disposition. She loved to watch the seasons change, see the different species of birds who frequented her bird feeder and spending time with her grandchildren. Debbie will be fondly remembered by those who knew her for her gentle manner and quick wit.
In accordance with Debbie’s wishes there will be no visitation or public internment. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolence messaged can be left for the family at www.jasnowfuneralhome.com In lieu of flowers, donations can me made in Debbie’s memory to the MS Society of Canada.
