Born September 24, 1934, in Griffin, Saskatchewan, to parents Lyall and Anna (Lockhart) Davis. Dawn spent her early years in Weyburn, SK. After graduating as valedictorian of her high school class, Dawn attended secretarial school in Regina. In 1957, Dawn married Jacob Fehr (RCMP) in Weyburn. Following their marriage, they were stationed to Prince Rupert, BC; Kelowna, BC; Ottawa, ON and finally Halifax, NS. Dawn later achieved her B.Ed. and M.Ed. at MSVU and M.A. at SMU, while raising her family and pursuing her teaching career.
Dawn taught for both the Halifax Regional School Board and South Shore Regional School Board. Passionate about fair and appropriate education for everyone, she was well known and respected throughout the community of Waverley where she taught elementary and reading resource at Waverley Memorial School.
While teaching was her true calling and passion, Dawn always put her family first and her dedication and love for her husband, children and grandchildren was extraordinary.
Following retirement, Dawn enjoyed travelling the world, playing bridge, dancing, and spending time with her grandchildren. Dawn always had a flare for fashion, her elegance and poise was noticeable in all aspects of her life.
Predeceased by her husband, Jacob Fehr; brothers, Allan and Mervin Davis; sister, Audrey Shinske. Surviving family members include brother, Bern (Bev) Davis – Calgary AB; daughters, Kellea (Stephen) Redden – Waverley NS; Allyson (Thane) Stevens – Lakeville NS; son, Steven (Susan) Fehr – Calgary AB; eight grandchildren, Stefanie, Mark, Mitchell, Michael, Jacqueline, Justine, Rachel, Kelsea; two great grandchildren, Jack and Freya; as well as niece/namesake Robbie (Don) Brien and many other special nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers Eileen Hartigan and Claudette (Evelyn) Doucet. Our mother’s care would not have been the same without you. Thanks so much for your commitment, patience, and love.
A celebration of Dawn’s life will take place October 14, 2016, at 2:00 pm at Bedford Baptist Church, Bedford, Nova Scotia, Officiator Rev. Nelson Metcalfe. Reception to follow. Family interment to take place at Brookside Cemetery, Bedford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or an association of choice.
